It’s Game Time! Healthy Snacks for Football Season
It’s that time of year again—game time! As an avid Broncos fan, it’s hard to pass up the opportunity to watch the game with friends and family. However, it’s tempting to reach for snacks that aren’t the healthiest, especially for those managing diabetes. Here are three of my favorite diabetes-friendly options to keep your blood sugar in check while you enjoy the action.
#1 Veggies and Hummus

Veggies and hummus make an excellent snack for people with diabetes because they offer a perfect combination of fiber, healthy fats, and protein, all of which help regulate blood sugar.
Non-starchy vegetables like cucumbers, bell peppers, celery, and carrots are low in carbohydrates, meaning they won’t cause a sudden spike in blood sugar levels. The fiber in these veggies also slows digestion, which helps maintain stable blood glucose levels over time.
#2 Apple Slices and Peanut Butter

Apple slices paired with peanut butter is another great balance of fiber, protein, and healthy fats that make it an excellent snack for people with diabetes. The natural sweetness of apples, combined with the creamy richness of peanut butter, creates a satisfying snack that can help curb cravings without spiking your blood sugar.
#3 Low Fat Cheese and Whole Grain Crackers

And finally, my favorite—low-fat cheese paired with whole-grain crackers. Feel free to add some colorful veggie garnish, maybe in your team’s colors!
Cheese, especially low-fat varieties, is a great source of protein and calcium, with very few carbohydrates, making it a diabetes-friendly option. Whole-grain crackers are a healthier alternative to refined options since they are made with whole grains that provide more fiber, vitamins, and minerals. The fiber in whole grains helps slow the absorption of carbohydrates, reducing the chances of sharp blood sugar spikes.
By choosing these diabetes-friendly snacks, you can stay satisfied and keep your blood sugar stable while watching your favorite team. Enjoy the game and your health!
